An aluminium louvre shutter is a folding external shutter built from an extruded aluminium frame and slats; light as it is, its rigid section keeps even tall, wide leaves from sagging. It is powder-coated in every RAL colour and in wood-effect finishes, and it does not corrode in damp settings such as the coast. With fixed or adjustable slats it suits terrace doors, large windows and wide façade openings.

Leaf and slat construction
The leaf frame is made from extruded aluminium profile with corner cleats at the joints; the slats socket into the frame and hold the leaf square. On the adjustable model the slats are linked to a rod inside the leaf and turn together with the lever on the inside face. The leaves hang on heavy-duty hinges fixed to the wall or to a subframe; groups of two, three or four fold to the side, and on wide openings they gather along a top track.

How large can an aluminium louvre shutter be?
Leaf size depends on the number of leaves and the capacity of the hinges; because aluminium is rigid, a single leaf can be taller and wider than in PVC. Large openings such as terrace doors are closed with groups of three or four leaves folding to the side. Ask our dealer network for a survey to confirm the sizes for your project.
Can it be used by the sea?
Yes. Aluminium does not rust, and the powder-coated surface protects it against salt air and damp. On coastal projects an aluminium louvre shutter needs far less maintenance than a timber one.
Are the slats fixed or adjustable?
Both are available. On an adjustable leaf a lever on the inside face turns the slats, so you set light and ventilation with the leaf closed. On a fixed leaf the slats are set at a downward angle, giving constant ventilation while keeping the rain out.
Does an aluminium louvre shutter insulate less well than a PVC one?
In insulation, yes — the PVC shutter is better thanks to its multi-chamber profile. Aluminium is better at rigidity: it does not sag on wide, tall leaves, will not corrode by the sea, and is open to every RAL colour and to wood-effect finishes.

Which way do the shutter leaves fold?
The leaves fold to the side on hinges; depending on the width of the opening they are divided to open to one side or to both. The number of leaves and the folding direction are planned during the site survey, according to the passage in front and the depth of the balcony.
