Monoblock Roller Shutter
Systems

Monoblock Roller Shutter

A box integrated with the window: the monoblock shutter box sits on top of the frame; its concealed, insulated box provides heat and sound insulation, security and blackout without disturbing the façade.

In a monoblock roller shutter the box sits on top of the window frame, so no separate recess has to be opened in the wall. The insulated box reduces heat loss around the window and only a slim line shows from outside. It is the usual choice in new build and window replacement, with extruded aluminium or foam-filled slats, motorised or manual.

How it differs from built-in shutters, which hide the box in the lintel recess, and surface-mounted shutters, which go above an existing window without breaking the facade, is set out side by side in the roller shutter comparison.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a knock-down (demonte) roller shutter?

A knock-down roller shutter is supplied to installers and dealers in disassembled form, to be assembled on site. Ferrini, as a manufacturer, supplies its dealers with roller shutters this way on a wholesale basis.

What is the difference between a monoblock shutter and a built-in roller shutter?

A monoblock shutter is a concealed-box system providing heat and sound insulation, while detail and surface-mounted roller shutter systems are other automatic shutter solutions applied with different mounting types.

What colour and motor options are available for roller shutter systems?

Ferrini roller shutter systems are offered with a wide range of colour and motor options, and can be remotely controlled with Ferrini-brand motor, control and automation products.

Does the monoblock shutter box cause heat loss?

No; the monoblock box is made insulated and, because it sits on top of the frame, no separate recess is left around the window. The air leakage and thermal bridging seen with boxes cut into the wall afterwards therefore do not arise.

When should a monoblock shutter not be the choice?

Because the box sits on top of the frame and takes some of the glass height, a built-in shutter hidden in the lintel suits narrow window openings, or jobs where no glass area may be given up. Where the shutter is added to an existing window, the surface-mounted shutter is chosen.

The difference between the three is in the roller shutter comparison.
