A surface-mounted roller shutter is fitted over the existing window without breaking into the façade, which makes it the fastest and most economical option. The box comes foam-filled or in extruded aluminium and is powder-coated in RAL colours to match the elevation. With a motor the cable runs inside the box; a remote, a wall switch and smart-home integration can be added.

Slat options and size limits
The surface-mounted box takes polyurethane-filled roll-formed slats or extruded aluminium slats. The recommended maximum sizes depend on the slat type (60 mm octagonal tube; 70 mm tube for the 77 mm slat):

The winding diameter ranges from 120 to 325 mm depending on slat type and height, and the box is chosen accordingly. All slats can be coated in RAL colours: white, aluminium grey, metallic grey, anthracite, traffic grey, light beige, beige grey, light bronze, cream, brown, bronze, mahogany, moss green and wood finishes (dark wood, mahogany, golden oak, walnut).
Box sizes
Top-front aluminium boxes in 137, 165, 180, 205, 250, 300 and 350 mm; the box is selected by winding diameter (max. 125 mm winding for the 137 mm box, 340 mm for the 350 mm box). Guide channels from 24 to 39 mm wide, mill finish or coated, in types for polyurethane and extruded slats.
Motor and control options
Ferrini tubular motors from 10 to 300 Nm, for 40, 60 and 70 mm octagonal and 102 mm round tubes, standard or geared, with or without receiver. Control: remote, wall button, smart-home system, crank or strap-box manual operation. The same box also takes the Tiktak Orient, Airlight 30, Daylight and Airlight Mini 16 sun louvre systems.
Taking correct measurements (for dealers)
- Height: measure at least 3 points including the box (winding included); deduct 2–3 mm from the shortest.
- Width: measure at least 3 points including the guide channels; deduct 2–3 mm from the shortest.
- Use a tape or laser measure; measure assuming the shutter sits in the chosen position (built-on, on the window, on the wall or reversed inside).
- Assembly types: built-on, with or without guide channel, box-included size, inside and reversed assembly; fixing to the window frame or to the wall.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between a surface-mounted and a monoblock roller shutter?
The box of a surface-mounted shutter is fitted afterwards on the outside of the window or under the lintel, which suits existing buildings and projects where the joinery is already in place. On a monoblock shutter the box comes as one unit on top of the window frame during manufacture.
Which slat type should I choose?
For residential windows 39–55 mm polyurethane-filled slats give lightness and thermal insulation; for openings over 3 m and where security matters, 55–77 mm extruded aluminium slats are used. The width, height and area limits in the table decide the choice.
Can it be retrofitted to my existing window?
Yes; the surface-mounted shutter is designed for exactly that. During the survey our authorised dealer measures the height needed for the box (winding diameter + 3 cm) and the guide allowances, and the system is made to measure.
Does a motorised shutter open during a power cut?
With the manual-override (gear) motor option the shutter can be opened and closed by hand during a power cut; a battery-backed control unit can also be added.
Does a surface-mounted shutter spoil the look of the facade?
The box is visible on the facade, so it is not a fully concealed solution. Box and slats can be coated in any RAL colour, so they can be matched to the frame or the facade; where architectural continuity must be kept intact, the built-in shutter hidden in the lintel is preferred.
