A single price per square metre for roller shutters would be misleading: quotes for two windows of the same size differ depending on the box type, the choice of slat, the motor and the installation conditions. This guide explains the items that make up a quote one by one, so you know what to look at when comparing quotes from your dealer.
The amount of slat, guide and box material grows with the size of the opening. Size also decides which options are possible: each slat type has its own maximum width, height and area, and large openings need a wider slat, a larger roll-up diameter and a bigger box. The largest Ferrini roller shutter is 5500 × 3500 mm, 13 m² (with 100 mm extruded slats). Recommended sizes for the surface-mounted box:
| Slat | Weight | Maximum width × height | Maximum area |
| 39 mm polyurethane-filled | 1.99 kg/m² | 2100 × 2300 mm | 3.8 m² |
| 43 mm polyurethane-filled | 2.47 kg/m² | 3000 × 3000 mm | 6 m² |
| 55 mm polyurethane-filled | 3.49 kg/m² | 3500 × 3000 mm | 8.5 m² |
| 77 mm polyurethane-filled | 4.41 kg/m² | 4500 × 3000 mm | 11 m² |
| 55 mm extruded aluminium | 6.99 kg/m² | 3500 × 2700 mm | 7.5 m² |
| 77 mm extruded aluminium | 10.26 kg/m² | 4500 × 3000 mm | 11 m² |
Where the box sits changes both the product and the scope of the work. In a monoblock roller shutter the insulated box sits on top of the window frame; it is the standard solution for new buildings and window replacement. In a built-in roller shutter the box is hidden in the lintel recess and plastered over; its space must be reserved at the shell construction stage and an insulation detail is needed around the box. A surface-mounted roller shutter is fitted over an existing window without breaking into the façade. Which type is possible usually depends on the stage the building is at; the differences between the three are in the roller shutter comparison.
Polyurethane-filled slats (39, 43, 55, 77 mm) are made with roll-forming technology; they are light, and their filling contributes to thermal insulation. Extruded aluminium slats (45, 55, 77, 100 mm) are heavier and are chosen where strength and security come first. The difference in weight does not stop at the slat: as the weight per square metre rises, the motor torque class and the box size are chosen accordingly. All slats can be used with all three box types.
A roller shutter can be manual (crank or automatic tape winder) or motorised. Ferrini tubular motors come in a 10–300 Nm torque range, standard or with gear reduction, with or without a built-in receiver; the motor is chosen to match the weight and size of the shutter. On the control side, single or multi-channel remotes, timer remotes, wall switches and smart home integration are chosen separately. For power cuts, a crank override or a battery-backed control unit can be added. The options are on the motors and controls page.
Slats and boxes can be painted in RAL colours; besides white, grey aluminium, anthracite, beige and bronze shades there are wood finishes such as dark wood, mahogany, golden oak and walnut. If you want a special RAL colour or wood finish to match your façade, say so when you ask for a quote.
Installation is planned according to what the dealer sees during the site survey: access to the façade, whether an existing shutter has to be removed and the power supply for a motorised system. In a motorised surface-mounted shutter the cable runs inside the box.
Ferrini makes roller shutters to measure in its İzmir facilities and ships them to its authorised dealers as knock-down systems; measuring, the site survey and installation are done by the dealer. That is why the exact price is settled after the dealer's survey. The process is faster if you have this information ready when you ask for a quote:
Slat and box material grow with the area, while motors, controls and automation products are added per unit. That is why comparing only the price per square metre can be misleading; check which slat, box and motor a quote specifies.
Most manual roller shutters can be motorised with a tubular motor suited to the tube diameter and weight. Our authorised dealer inspects it on site and chooses the right motor.
Yes. In summer they stop the sun outside the window and reduce the cooling load; in winter they slow down the loss of warm air from inside. Polyurethane-filled slats and the insulated box of a monoblock roller shutter add to this effect.
