Threshold-Free and Low-Threshold Glass Balcony
How does the bottom rail of a glass balcony meet the floor? The Tiara platform comes with three bottom-rail options: flush threshold-free, low threshold and standard. Walk through without tripping at home and provide barrier-free access in commercial spaces.
The threshold is not just a matter of comfort: pushchair, wheelchair and service-trolley access, continuity of the floor finish and water drainage all depend on this decision. Albert Genau offers threshold solutions at different heights for Tiara Twinmax and Tiara 08/10, according to the floor structure of the space.
Threshold-free (flush) bottom rail
The bottom rail is recessed to screed or finish level so the floor continues uninterrupted. Preferred when merging a balcony with the living room and on restaurant terraces; drainage is solved with hidden channels inside the rail.
Low-threshold bottom rail
A slim profile that stands only a few millimetres above the floor; installed without disturbing the existing finish, with minimal tripping risk.
Standard bottom rail
Wide-surface or high threshold; the highest drainage capacity for façades exposed to heavy rain and wind.

Does water get in with a threshold-free glass balcony?
Not when installed correctly. In the recessed rail, water is taken into hidden drainage channels inside the profile and discharged outside; floor slope and drainage direction are planned together at the dealer's survey.
Can a threshold-free system be fitted to my existing balcony?
The floor needs enough screed or finish thickness to recess the bottom rail. If not, the low-threshold rail offers almost the same comfort; the dealer decides at the survey.
